What is numerology? How does it work?

HistoryDefinitionsThe mathsLinks
Historical background:
Some specialists think that numerology has originated in the ancient Chinese and Hindu civilizations. Others link it to Pythagoras. Others yet believe numerology to be based upon the first kabalistic interpretations of the Bible...

To be honest, given the total absence of written evidence, it is almost impossible nowadays to trace down the exact origins of the discipline. Anyways, it is known that, from their very origin, modern Humans have always tried to break down their environment and origins to rational concepts, easily understandable, in a desperate attempt to understand the obsessing question of the meaning of life..

Numerology is an easy enough method to learn and comprehend. It interprets the numbers as an external manifestation of the universal order and enables some kind of connection between microcosm and macrocosm.

At the turn of the 20th Century, in the United States of America, in a world with more questions than answers and in which absolute truths were starting to become a rare commodity, it was almost predictable that this ancient means would reappear mainly because of its stunning simplicity. Modern numerology has various antecedents. Ruth A. Drayer's book, “Numerology, The Power in Numbers” (Square One Publishers) says that around the turn of the century (from 1800 to 1900 A.D.) Mrs. L. Dow Balliett combined Pythagoras' work with Biblical reference.

Of course, numerology has evolved since those times. It doesn't provide an answer to all the questions but it definitely contributes and helps in its own way. And if, by reading your analysis, some of the mysteries of your life have suddenly become unveiled and helped you make choices and decisions, well, numerology has undoubtedly won its bet!
